In Turkey, visit sites related to the seven churches of Revelation including Sardis, Pergamum, Laodicea, and Ephesus. 2023 Romania Hutterite and Cultural Tour

Retrace the footsteps of Hutterite ancestors as you cross the Transylvania region of Romania; home to the small Hutterite community of Alwinz for nearly 150 years.  Envision the great escape that thwarted the Jesuit plan as the last 77 Hutterites, one-third of which were children under 12, fled over the Transylvanian Alps and miraculously escaped to safety, in a Muslim-controlled country. Marvel at the historic architectural beauty of medieval castles, churches and villages. Scenic Transylvania is where the Carinthian Lutheran converts with the family names of Hofer, Kleinsasser, Glanzer, Waldner, and Wurtz, joined the Hutterite families of Wipf, Tschetter and Stahl to form the nucleus from which the rejuvenated Hutterites would grow and prosper.

World of Paul: Italy Extension

The three-part Russlaender Centenary Tour will re-enact the historic migration of 21,000 Mennonites from Russia to Canada beginning in 1923. With the help of established Mennonites, the migrants found new homes in Canada in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution—a time of civil war, famine, and epidemic. This tour celebrates the faith of these newcomers, memorializes the challenges of resettlement, acknowledges race and displacement in Canadian history. The tour is a collaborative effort among Canadian Mennonite historians and heritage enthusiasts. Tour leaders Henry Paetkau and Ingrid Mohleman, along with other historic resource people, will share informative talks during the tour.

Silk Road Odyssey: The Trek to Central Asia

In 1880-1881, five wagon trains of Mennonites left European Russia and headed east to Central Asia along the famous Silk Road. Seeking freedom from conscription and new economic opportunities, this group went east instead of west to North America as 18,000 did a decade earlier. In the last decade, new details of the Great Trek have emerged in the remarkable Silk Road cities of Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara. Amidst the splendour of the Islamic architecture and often mountainous landscape, the Mennonite Great Trek story will emerge through journals and letters of trekkers, archival documents, and current reflections. Tour leader John Sharp is a retired college history and Bible professor whose passion for and knowledge of the Mennonite Great Trek along the Silk Road will give you valuable insight into this chapter of Mennonite history. John has led several tours to Central Asia and has developed relationships with locals who will give you insight into Uzbek life and culture.

A Nordic nation located in the North Atlantic, Iceland is a sparsely populated country famed for its abundance of epic landscapes. Known as the Land of Ice and Fire, thanks to its geothermal activity, the country’s isolated location has not affected its cultural wealth and in fact, has fostered a vibrant and unique cultural scene and a prosperous nation. Marvel at the amazing variety of landscapes on this rugged island haven: from volcanoes to glaciers to fjords to thundering waterfalls. Explore Iceland’s unique culture and geology, and the famous Ring Road of natural wonders including the Golden Circle, the Glacier Lagoon, Lake Myvatn and Dettifoss. Have a chance to see the magical natural light show of the aurora borealis. Iceland is one of the best places in the world to view the northern lights, and we will be visiting during peak season. 

2023 Peru: The Sacred Valley of the Incas

On this awe-filled tour of Peru, immerse yourself in the ancient Incan civilization as you visit spectacular ruins in Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Machu Picchu and as you encounter remnants of that culture in our time. The Incas ruled a vast empire along the Western coast of South America from about 1400 to 1533 AD. They left behind unique art and architecture and were known for adapting natural landscapes with terracing, highways and mountaintop settlements set impossibly high in the Andes. Also tour the city of Cuzco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with an intriguing blend of stone walls built by Incas, Spanish colonial architecture and modern buildings. Tour leaders Len and Mary Friesen make every tour an experience as they take travellers to see hidden gems. On this tour they will share a part of the world they first encountered in 2005.
