Last days on the Christmas Markets cruise

Friday in Riquewihr, France was a real treat. The scenic ride from our remote docking location took us through flat farmland to the rolling hillsides almost entirely draped by wine grape vineyards.

As we approached our destination we spotted a rare sighting of a stork standing in its nest on top of a house chimney. Normally at this time of year these unique birds have migrated to Africa in search of food but this lone stork must be surviving on contributions from town residents.

The quaint little French village of Riquewihr would be our last opportunity to purchase gifts and souvenirs so we quickly scattered into the hundreds of Christmas Market booths and the local shops.

The festive décor throughout town was so colourful and bright but photos could not quite capture what you see with the naked eye. Mulled wine, hot chocolate and hot apple cider offset the chilly breeze that wove through the narrow cobblestone streets.

Back at the AmaSonata we gathered for our Farewell Dinner which offered one last opportunity to enjoy each other’s company before we parted ways at the end of a wonderful tour.
