May 26 Edinburgh, Scotland
This morning, arrive at Queensferry (or simply “The Ferry”), just 45 minutes west of Edinburgh. Later, explore Scotland’s compact, hilly capital, with its medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town, gardens and neoclassical buildings. Looming over the city is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels. Later on, re-embark your ship and pass by the magnificent Bass Rock, an imposing volcanic island about a mile from the shore. Also, cruise past the Isle of May, home to a magical mix of noisy sea birds and seals.
May 27 At Sea
Enjoy the amenities on board your ship.
May 28 Kirkwall, Scotland
Arrive in Kirkwall: the largest town in Orkney, an archipelago to the north of mainland Scotland. Kirkwall’s Norse heritage stretches back almost a millennium, when the Vikings laid the foundations of the magnificent St. Magnus Cathedral from local sandstone. (Yes these Vikings were Christian!)
May 29 Inverness, Scotland
The unmistakable Scottish Highlands are shrouded in myth and folklore. Amid the conical hills and verdant glens beyond Inverness, one cannot help but scan Loch Ness for signs of its legendary monster. Nearby is Culloden Moor, where the historic Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated and Cawdor Castle, which is forever linked with Macbeth. There are several famous whiskey distilleries in the region, too.
May 30 Isle of Skye, Scotland
Today, cruise by the largest island of the Inner Hebrides archipelago: the Isle of Skye. Throughout history, many have fought for control of this significant Gaelic island, mainly due to its strategic location, abundance of wildlife and salmon-rich waters.
May 31 Scottish Isles scenic cruising
Take in the rugged scenery of the history-rich Scottish Isles, with endless miles of unforgiving coastline and some impressive inland scenery.
June 1 Glasgow, Scotland
Disembark at Greenock this morning, where you are likely to be greeted by the stirring sights and sounds of a traditional Scottish pipe band in full tartan regalia. From Greenock, travel to the cosmopolitan city of Glasgow, where you can explore a host of museums and galleries. Outside of the bustling city, visit Scotland’s largest country park at Castle Semple or the tranquil Loch Lomond.
June 2 Belfast, Northern Ireland
On the northeast coast of Ireland, Belfast Harbour sits among the high hills, inlet, and banks of the River Lagan. With quiet countryside, beautiful seashores, and an active centre, this capital city has many exciting attractions, historic houses, and landscapes to admire.
June 3 Liverpool, England
Arrive in Liverpool, a lively and modern city with a taste of the ‘60s. Take a ferry across the Mersey for some great harbour views or a Magical Mystery Tour of the city to recall the life and times of The Beatles.
June 4 At Sea
Relax on board the ship with your fellow travellers.
June 5 Cork, Ireland
Arrive at Cobh this morning, a quaint seaside town built on a steep hill on the Great Island in Cork’s natural harbour. The town features colourful houses and the impressive spire of Saint Coleman’s Cathedral. From here, make your way to the city of Cork, built on an island on the River Lee and spanned by many bridges which create a glamorous continental feel, much like Venice. Visit the English market, full of family-run stalls dating back through generations. Eat at traditional pubs serving the obligatory “black stuff,” Guinness. Visit Blarney Castle, and kiss the famous Blarney Stone to receive the mythical gift of eloquence.
