Healing Begins Between Catholics and Protestants

500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation Celebrations with Co-operative Prayer Service.

October 31, 2017, is the day we mark the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Protestants have been celebrating anniversaries of the Reformation for a long time. This year, for the first time, the year-long celebration was kicked off by Pope Francis and Bishop Munib Younan, president of the Lutheran World Federation, co-leading a prayer service at the Lutheran cathedral in Lund, Sweden. It is an historic breakthrough and is part of the process of the healing of the breaches of the sixteenth century which have been going on since Vatican II. The celebrations this year will be quite different from any previous celebration.

Professor Robert (Bob) Kelly is co-leading a Reformation tour called Celebrating 500 Years of the Reformation & Life of Luther, May 12 to May 21, 2017.
