On the final day of our Heritage tour we explored Salzburg, Austria. We had a 4 hour bus tour with our guide Roman who gave us the inside scoop on the Sound of Music which was filmed in Salzburg over 50 years ago. We saw the locations where filming took place: the abbey, the gazebo, the mansion, the countryside, etc. Fun facts: there were actually 10 children, the oldest child was male, the family escaped via train via northern Italy, the entire family was imprisoned at Ellis Island for 2 weeks when returning to the US.
In the evening we enjoyed our last meal together at Castle Hohensalzburg which offered a panoramic view of the city & the majestic mountain range. At the castle we enjoyed a concert of classical music that highlighted Mozart. Salzburg is the birthplace of Mozart.
