Vietnam and Singapore November 12 - 26, 2012 ![]() With tour leaders Luke Martin & Wilmer Martin TourMagination’s second tour to Vietnam will introduce you to the spectacular beauty of the country and its unique culture. This tour will led by Luke Martin, a former mission worker in Vietnam with Eastern Mennonite Missions, and by TourMagination’s Wilmer Martin. Come and visit some of the most scenic places in the world. Learn about the people of Vietnam from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. Hear about the political, religious and sociological aspects of life in Vietnam. Visit historical sites and view modern developments. See thousands of limestone mountain islands as well as the vast rice producing countryside. More than thirty-five years after the war, visit the legacy of the war and observe a people committed to modern development. Talk to people working with Mennonite Central Committee and other voluntary organizations as well as Vietnamese religious leaders and persons working with education and social services. Monday-Wednesday, November 12 - 14 Our tour departs from JFK Airport, New York and will fly to Frankfurt, Germany where we will connect on our flight to Singapore. Upon our arrival in Singapore, we will connect to Hanoi and will settle into our hotel in the Hoan Kiem area near the Hoan Kiem Lake and near the Old Quarter Market. Thursday, November 15 After a good night’s sleep, we will be ready to get acquainted with the city of Hanoi. We will visit with local Christians, including Mennonite Central Committee workers. We hope to visit the central Hanoi ECVN Church. We will take time to visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh Stilt House and Museum, One Pillar Pagoda and Temple of Literature, as well as explore the fascinating shops of the markets in the Old Quarter near our hotel. A highlight of the day will be a water puppet show. ![]() Ha Long Bay A boat ride through the rice fields of Red Rover Delta to Ha Long Bay will take us to see the limestone Thien Cung Cave and Dau Go Grotto. A seafood dinner on the boat is included. We will enjoy the sunset as we travel back to Hanoi. Saturday, November 17 This morning, we will be joined at breakfast by North American representatives of the Mennonite Central Committee. We will then fly to Danang where we will board a bus to travel to Hoi An. In Hoi An, we will learn about the Cao Dai religion as we visit the Cham Museum at the temple. We will also enjoy times of fellowship with the local Mennonite group in Hoi An. Sunday, November 18 This morning, we will attend the early morning worship service of the Hoi An Mennonite Church. We will then enjoy a walking tour of the picturesque old city. You will have free time to explore the city on your own in the afternoon, or perhaps to rest and send postcards home describing your experiences. ![]() Thien Mu Pagoda We will begin our day by traveling to Hue where we will be welcomed by a noon meal in the home of a local resident. After this, we will visit the Dong Da Market, followed by a boat trip on the Perfume River to visit the Thien Mu Pagoda. We will see the Citadel and the Imperial City. Late in the day, we will either attend a musical performance in the Royal Theatre in the Forbidden City or will visit one of the royal tombs – Tu Duc or Minh Mang – if time permits. Tuesday, November 20 Today we will fly to Ho Chi Minh City. There we will visit the War Remnants Museum, the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office. ![]() Chu Chi tunnels Our time in Ho Chi Minh City will focus on encounters with Mennonite leaders and groups. Our tour leader, Luke Martin, will introduce us to his Mennonite colleagues and we will have opportunity to talk with some of the registered church leaders. This afternoon, you will enjoy free time to sightsee, shop or relax. We will also make sure to visit the Chu Chi tunnels northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Thursday, November 22 Today we will take a day trip to Mekong Delta, which will include a visit to the Cai Be floating market near Vinh Long. We will travel by boats through fruit orchards and will have the opportunity to see some home-based industries. We will return to Ho Chi Minh City by its impressive new suspension bridge. Friday, November 23 We say farewell to Vietnam this morning, as we depart by plane for Singapore. We will be introduced to this majestic city with an orientation tour today. Saturday, November 24 Today we will have opportunity to meet with leaders and members of the Singapore Mennonite Church to learn about their vision for their church and to hear their stories of faith. ![]() Singapore orchid garden After worshipping with our brothers and sisters of the Singapore Mennonite Church, we will visit the Thian Hock Keng Temple. We will also enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the harbor from Mount Faber and will make stops at a local handicraft center and a spectacular orchid garden. Tonight, we will enjoy our farewell meal together before a late night departure for home. Monday, November 26 This morning we will arrive at JFK Airport. You will arrive home with many fond memories, beautiful pictures and with the new friends you have made while traveling together.
