Today we spent the day in the area where 80% of Christ’s ministry took place – from a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee to a visit at one of the seven springs that enter the sea near Kafer Nahum (Capernaum). We had a powerful time of worship as we shared the boat with a large group of young Chinese Christians who are living in London. After our Israeli hosts paid respect to us by raising the American and Chinese flags on the same pole, we sang songs and prayed together, bringing to life the words, “In Christ there is no East or West.” We walked the cardo (road) that Jesus walked many times between the house of Peter’s mother-in-law and the synagogue.
With the Anabaptist call to live the Sermon on the Mount, members read the text on the very spot Christ proclaimed those words. For tour member Ed, the moment represented “a fulfillment of a lifetime dream” and an opportunity “to rededicate himself to the teachings of his Savior.”
Tomorrow we visit Bet Lechem (Bethlehem) and go up to the City of David, following the footsteps of millions of pilgrims from the nations and ages.
